With the oil ring missing, all it will do is burn oil on that cylinder but like I said above, some serious parts have to be broken for that ring to come out like that.
I wouldn't run the truck any more at all if you plan on savaging what's left of your engine until you find out what's going on.
I think this has to do with the small amount the drag link sensor moves in and out which will add a little play in the steering. Like you, I noticed a little looser feel on a stock truck.
I've seen several deuces with broken cylinder liners (including one of my own) but they usually leave large chunks of the liner in the pan. Mine also had a very loud knock, other than that it ran fine though.
After seeing the pics posted of a new set of rings, I'm leaning more heavily toward a...
Having never had a piston out of a deuce I'm going out on a limb here.
Does the piston oil ring have a spring in it? I know a lot of other engines do. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw the pics. I don't know how they would come out in that big of pieces without a broken...
I have found that putting wood in the floor without a skin makes material stick in the bed much worse.
We always used 3/4" plywood on the bed sides and seemed to work pretty well. It would eventually wear out and need to be replaced but it would last a pretty good while in trucks hauling big...
Here a link to a post where I give an evaluation of the setup. http://www.steelsoldiers.com/showthread.php?42181-Power-Steering-Possibility&p=1479174&viewfull=1#post1479174
Porky is right. Big rocks, concrete, and large wood is hard on bed floors. It does help to pad with some dirt or small gravel before you dump in the big stuff.
I've fixed several commercial beds like this and we always just re-skinned the floor. The cheapest way is to just put a new layer over...
That sounds good. I'm not planning on dropping my 003 in a lake but wanted to make sure if the generator got rained on these gauges wouldn't quit.
Personally, I'd rather have the right gauges in the factory locations.
Honestly, I just put it on there. It does take a little less air hose with the cylinder mounted this way.
One thing I don't like with the stock air-assist is the cylinder sits so low (more chance to get damaged). I tucked this one up as far as I could without interfering with the driveshaft.
Are they waterproof?
I bought one of the Hardy Diesel frequency meters and was going to do a installation like you did but it didn't look waterproof so I haven't installed it.
Be sure to post these up in the classifieds when you have some to sell.
Oh, I'm guilty too. Going forward I'm going to try and do better though.
As I said in the original post, there are no official rule changes at this time. This whole thread is just to get people to think about it before they post in the classifieds. Some of the things I listed may become...
Patracy said it better than I did.
I do think people should use the feedback more. I didn't contradict myself, I think people should use the feedback more but I can't force them to. A lot of people will comment in the thread about how good of deal they got in the thread but they never will use...
I just had to deal with a few threads for violating the 7 day bump rule. When people do this it's not fair to the other members who abide by the rules.
Personally, I think it would just be best to make this known in the feedback and just leave it out of the thread. People don't use the feedback much, why I don't know.
I didn't delete (I don't think) but somebody may have. If a item has been paid for it's best to go ahead a delete the thread...
Classifieds clean up
As some of you may have noticed, there have been some new mods assigned to help get the classified adds in order. We have been cleaning up threads and ask for everyone's help in this matter. These are just recommendations and there won't be any official rule changes at...
Not too bad. It doesn't do much at a standstill but is a very big improvement while moving slowly. I'm running full truck pressure (no regulator) and the performance drops way off under 90psi. I have noticed a little hesitation in the assist picking up at the very beginning of steering wheel...
Everybody wants a tank from the time they are old enough to talk. The reality is that they are very expensive to own and operate though and their use is very limited.
I would imagine building one would be equally expensive (if not more), not counting all the man hours you'll have involved...
I'll admit I haven't paid any close attention to tank tracks but I've never seen a piece of construction equipment with casted tracks. All I've ever seen were forged. I wouldn't think cast tracks would be strong enough.
I'm good friends with a guy that owns a forging company but I still think...
