    Working on the M1078 LMTV

I was surprised to get the online alternator belts I ordered in the mail today. That was pretty quick and if I knew they were going to be here that fast I wouldn't have bought the ones at Advanced. These, like the Advanced belts, are coded 17580. Again, less than $10 (plus $3 per for...

Are you mad that the gov is selling HMMWVs?

Yep. I certainly couldn't afford a M1078 when they first came out. I still can't afford a running A1 but the likelihood that they'll come down in price as more are released is almost a sure bet. Having driven thousands of miles in HMMWVs I can't see the appeal any way. The fact that some can...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Absolutely! These are around 350lbs each but the ones with runflats in them are around 450lbs. That's tough even when you're 20.

Are you mad that the gov is selling HMMWVs?

The site owner, the person who provides the expense of having this board and therefore ALLOWS you to be here, does not want discussions about circumventing the DLA decision to sell HMMWVs as Off Road Only. There is no anti-registration bent to anything other than a simple site rule. Same as no...

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Well it cost me $100 but I finally got the tires unloaded from my trailer. I hired a couple of guys to manhandle them. Less than renting a tractor or bobcat so I came out ahead. Michelin loaded in the back of the pickup is going on the 1078 tomorrow when we recover it.

    New Guy

Well when I typed that I was sitting in a Dr office nice and dry :) Sun is shining today so you should be able to have some fun. Me, I'm getting ready to unload 12 LMTV wheels/tires. Let's see, 350lbs each x 12, carry the 2 equals...lots of weight. Notice I didn't move them when it was...

What have you done to your MKT this week???

I did some biscuits and cookies in mine when I had it. The tough thing is keeping the temperature constant and keeping an eye on it. I got a probe thermometer and just stuck it in one of the vents to have an idea what the temp was and adjusted the burner as needed. Everything turned out...

How practial is a LMTV as a daily driver ?

Our 1st military vehicle was for my wife. She wanted a mid-50s Dodge Power Wagon and while looking for one I ran across a M37. The rest is history. That was 9 years ago and in that time I've had 4 CUCVs, half a dozen deuces, 3 MKTs, 1 M923A2, a Gama Goat, and now a 1078. She still has the same M37.

    Texas lmtv's

Every 1995 I've seen in the past were M1078s. A1s didn't start until much later.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Picked up the alternator belts at Advanced Auto today. I'm not sure if Gates changed their number or when switching from CARQUEST to Advanced they changed the number but here's something additional to use as a cross reference when trying to source the belts. The new sticker had both the old...

What tracked armor options do I have these day?

Depends on how deep your pockets are. There was a nice M60A3 that sold just west of Austin a couple of years ago - $350k I believe. Lots of European stuff is available cheaper but unless you find one already here you have to deal with all the import BS, shipping expenses, transport once it's...

    Receiver Hitch

"A boat is merely a hole in the water to pour money in to" That's the joke. The LMTV is hole #2. The other one is "the 2 best days of owning a boat - the day you buy it and the day you sell it" Hopefully that isn't the same with a LMTV.

    Working on the M1078 LMTV

Heading over to NDTs on Saturday. Should be about 6 hours +/- from his place home. I'm not going to jinx it by saying it should be uneventful but at least the weather is supposed to cooperate.

Nice boat! Of course the only thing my wife would see is 2 holes to pour money in to :)
