you pull the cover off, pull out the diesel weighted governor, and slide in the gasser one. We did this on my buddies truck.
the gasser will run and drive with the diesel governor, but its going to shift way to low on the rpm's. it will be a dog.
to make the diesel trans work for a gasser, you need the gasser torque convertor and you need to change out the governor on the side of the transmission, thats the only difference. The valve body is the exact same.
i would suggest that if your looking for a larger tire simpley to help with the gear ratio, that you look at some narrow 36" tires like the wrangler R/T II's used on the humvee. you may have to have the front springs replaced if they have sagged a lot, but other than that you shouldnt have any...
the rear end will have the locker regardless, all cucv pickup's got the detroit.
The front is easy to test using the above method.
Or you could find a large mud pit to test the truck in, :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
yes upping the fuel would be bad, you really need to get a pyrometer on that engine so you dont melt a piston from too high exhaust temps. really that only way to add power is to put a turbocharger on the engnine, no "quick" or "cheap" power adders for a diesel.
RE: I like your color scheme!
That is one of the best, if not the best CUCV I've ever had the pleasure of seeing pictures of. TOP NOTCH work [thumbzup]
Not that what you did wont work, but you really should have contacted Saturn BEFORE you modified it to work. You didnt give them the chance to make it right.
you have an issue with your glow plugs, I'm betting that several of them are burnt out. The correct replacement part is Wellman 070.
It could also be that the glow plug relay has bad contacts. The way to test this is to get your multi-meter and check for voltage on the bottom large lug of the...
it could be the vacuum regulator on the side of the injector pump, or the governer on the side of the transmission sticking. If you disconnect the vacuum lines from the transmission it should shift, mind you it will be late and Very hard. but this will tell you if its a transmision issue or...
