Now here is a generator trailer!

    Wow, that's a monster of a trailer.

How much to repair this deuce?

Think they could take the time to clean the mud off of the undercarriage after taking it mudding? Looks like there's mud in the wheels itself. Wonder if that could be part of the brake issues.

    Axle Vents

My M813A1 didn't have the lines to the axles and just had normal vents on the axles. Which had me thinking there wasn't an issue there. How long after you ford do you have to grease the axles? Seems a bit tough to come out of the water and then grease them right there.

    Axle Vents

Why are they not tapped into a combined vent/breather system on the trucks to keep them out of water when fording?

    Winching, Recovery and Field Expediants

If you have a fairlead. If it's running up on the winch drum directly, it'd be fine. Seems like polishing the fairleads would be a good idea too to prevent rubbing the rope the wrong way.

    Winching, Recovery and Field Expediants

Bjorn will probably install a camera and backing system with several displays on a heads up panel that folds out of the way for driving. ;-)

5 ton winch on rear of deuce!

    Seen these Bjorn? http://www.surpluscenter.com/sort.asp?UID=2005112923192273&catname=winches&keyword=IWHY

    Winching, Recovery and Field Expediants

Given the weight, energy storage and maintenance of the wire rope, when I replace my winch cable, I plan on buying synthetic winch rope.

    Replacing Deuce Clutch

I wonder if Bjorn will get a battery powered hydraulic power unit so he can do this kind of clutch change with his knuckle boom. Seems like that hoist unit could easily be built with a welder and raw steel tubing and a few other bits. No

    Pull off's

WEight in the bed will help a great deal. If you can get some concrete blocks or better yet, water, that'd be easy to load and dispose of weight. That'll help the wheels get better purchase. Have a bit of fun with him after you drag him around the first time, offer to pull with only the rear...

    Deuce in the snow?

So how bad was the front bumper? Seems like some fair leads attached to the frame would be a great thing for those winching operations to the rear.

Any problems with tapping one battery for 12v accessories?

The place I look first for odd Bulbs is Newark.com. They'll ship mail order from online and have LOTS of electronics and such. I found some 24 volt bulbs for some basic armored marker lights for my 2 axle trailer that I bought at Advance Auto Parts. They have a LOT of bulbs listed, you have to...

    Deuce crankcase breather filter details

Hey Bjorn, did you plumb the oil drain back to the engine?

    Will a M818 pull a M172?

Hey, Bjorn, I'd suspect the 6x6 nature of the deuce does make getting your material right next to the job site a lot easier than with a commercial truck no?

    AIR COMPRESSOR?

I have one as well. They're good for general shop work save the big jobs like larger sandblasting and such. Basic painting, air tools (except for those humongus impact wrenches), etc One thing that does greatly increase the utility of an air compressor is some 1" galvanized or black pipe run...

    Desert Rat Sighting

Hey Kenneth, could you post a picture array of your M103 chassis w/ S250 shelter? I want to do one of those. Ideally one on a M103 so I could slide it into the bed of the Deuce for when I'm towing the Dingo or Ferret on the back of the vehicle trailer I just bought.

    Drop side Vs .....uhh Non-Dropside?

The ISO beds are easier to raise and lower by one's self. I could do it no problem. Weight is about as much as the tail gate.

Thing about the 5 tons is that they're so much bigger underneath that you can more or less sit up under them and service them with out having to use a crawler to get under them. I'm 5'11 and I had no trouble getting under my 5 ton and sitting up with a flashlight to look and inspect things...

    Fuel Tank return fitting

Ahh, the tube is fine. It was the elbow that got buggered up easily. 1/4" NPT male to 3/8" FIP

Having owned a 5 ton (M813A1) and a Deuce now, I can speak with some authority. Get a deuce first. 5 Tons are a handful. They are easier to drive, but they're just so much larger. 5 Tons really do need a Soldier B for a lot of tasks like bleeding the fuel system. The USMC M813A1s have a few...
