JF, I plug my truck in (600w block heater) and i have no engine fan until the truck is up to 160F (have the electric fans on a thermostat). plus the turbo helps to add heat to the metal block for sure.
there should be a front bracket that attaches to a stud on the starter and a bolt on the block, otherwise you will keep having issues, just ask for the starter brace at the gm dealer, there is a different part number if you have the direct drive (old style) vs. the new gear reduction starter...
i had a cracked cone when my starter died a few years ago, heard that they'd seen a lot of bad castings on that starter. you do have the bracket on the front of the starter to the engine block though, right?
its like covering the radiator with cardboard, restricts the amount of air blowing through so the vehicle can heat up. I dont have any issues because i have electric fans that dont come on till the truck is at operating temp. so i have heat very quickly.
you can get a set of hubs from a dually truck and swap them on to your axle instead of the spacers, since the dually hubs move the wheel mounting surface 2" out.

a 205 can have 2 low if you modify the shift rail by grinding it slightly, its been done many a time, you can also have front drive only just by modifying the shift rails and getting a third shift handle.
