Check out this thread- http://www.steelsoldiers.com/deuce/26627-m35a2c-troop-seat-side-braces.html?highlight=dropside+troop+seat+brace
There's a couple of pics in that thread also.
The registration doesn't really matter. The insurance is another story. They are nice as can be as long as you send in your payments and don't have an accident. One serious accident and they can turn into your worst enemy. It doesn't really matter if your local agent says it will never happen...
The deuce engine was designed as a multi-fuel. The CUCV engine was designed as a diesel. Shoot, my deuce engine even says "multi-fuel" right on the data plate.
I guess technically both engines are diesel. Any compression ignition engine is by definition a diesel engine regardless what fuel it...
:ditto:
I hate opening and shuting the tailgate. I love not having to side pallets in from the rear. Hence the love/hate.
Most dropsides are missing the troop seat braces. Without the braces, it is almost impossible to close the tailgate with people sitting in the seats. It's also dangerous...
I wouldn't braze it. I'd gas weld it with your oxy/acetylene setup. You can weld thin stuff as good as a mig, just slower and requires more skill. Get you some welding tips, an old coat hanger, some scrap steel, and get to practicing.
You'll have to have a gasket or two. It is required to set the proper clearance of the shaft. I made my own gaskets and think I used two. The end plates on the brake end and input will also have to be shimmed with gaskets.
Indian Head is still available at my local NAPA. I use it on gaskets...
I didn't put anything on the bolts when I rebuilt my winch. Haven't had any leaks. If I put anything I'd use pipe dope or Teflon tape. They are made to seal threads.
Have you picked the trailer up yet or are you just going by what the auction description says? The reason I ask is that you can't apply for a sf97 before you pick up the trailer. Also, after you pick it up you can look for a s/n on it. Just because the description says " s/n unknown" doesn't...
Some of the cheap flaring tools won't make a good double flare. You can usually get by making single flares but they tend to deform on the doubles.
Like others have said, just go to the parts store and buy a line of the appropriate length. I've bought several for the deuce this way. I bought...
I guess in light of another thread, we're going to have to give Kenny some time off.
Although I don't think Gimpy's banning taught him a lesson. :cookoo:
You can come-a-long a truck onto a trailer but it's very hard work. I bought a 8K winch from Harbor Freight and put it on a portable mount that can attach to darn near anything. Some of the best money I ever spent. Pushing that button and watching the truck crawl onto the trailer is priceless...
Dito
I posted the dito smiley but it wouldn't show up when I posted it (just blank).
I also can't open the link Chris posted. All I get is a message "page not found".
You know, I thought in the back of my mind that your account had been hacked. I remember the other real hack. I was going to wait and see if you replied before I deemed the site and your account under attack. I'll sound the "all clear". [thumbzup]
