Does your radiator have a warranty? A system pressure tester can be used to see if your making pressure(above what it should) as well as for leaks. Caps can be tested too.

I bet you could have bought a used main shaft on this site, for about $50.

Did you replace any bearings or bushings when you rebuilt it? Did you properly set the preload on the bearings?

I've had this happen(on an MEP-002) when a fuel pump went bad and was causing a short. Real easy to unplug them and try again, just to eliminate that.
