    Receiver Hitch Mount

The 86 M1008 will need a rear receiver hitch. The heaviest load it'll have to pull is a tandem axle 20ft trailer with a 5500lb tractor on it. Are Draw-Tite units the best or is there a better option?

    6.5 GEP NA or 5.9 12v NA?

A turbo 400 is very stout. Those things will handle a lot of power and torque, plus they're easier off road compared to a clutch. Just food for thought; it may be cheaper and easier to change carriers in the differentials and go with 4:10 or 3:73 gears. With 255 85 16 Toyo or BFG KM2, you can...

    More Starting Issues 1985 M1009

What cucvrus said... sounds like your starter took a dump on you. I recently had the same issue. Wound up getting the starter rebuilt and now it turns that 6.2 over real fast. ** since you're going to have the starter off, get brand new AC Delco starter bolts and nothing else. Hardened...

How do you get the most horsepower out of a 6.2?

Not much you can really do to the 6.2 without spending a lot of coin. Changing the harmonic balancer does wonders for these old engines. I recently changed mine and it was a notable difference in power and smoothness. Keeping the fuel system clean and working as it should helps as well.

    M1028 dually tires

For starters you would need 16.5 diameter dually wheels.... and yes spacers will be needed. A Toyo MT 255 85 16 should fit with no spacers and they measure every bit of 33.5in tall.

What have you done to your CUCV today/lately - Part 2

Got the 85 M1008 back on the road; new batteries, some wiring gremlins fixed, rebuilt the starter, new radiator and new harmonic balancer. The ole 6.2 runs a lot better and smoother with a new balancer... feels good to drive and hear it again.

Any of you guys have your m1009 setup for Overlanding?

The rear locker in the 10bolt rear was knicknamed Gov-Bomb for a reason.... if you can find a 14 bolt 6 lug semi floater rear axle, it's worth the coin to upgrade it.

    Guilty Pleasure

I'm recovering from a bad lower back injury and I can say my 04 GMC 2500 is a lot easier on my lower back, but it ain't nowhere near as fun as the M1008's and 79 K20....

    Squealing belt / charging issue

Good to know... my 85 M1008 eats up the driver's side alternator belt pretty quick.
