The M1009 rusts just looking at it, we have a 1962 Jeep that has bare metal on it and it is still strong enough to walk on the hood and not dent it. The metal used in the 1980's was not very good compared to the older vehicles but that is just my 2 cents.
Welcome to the Steel Soldiers, you...
In Vietnam the Army used a similar type of vehicle called the ACAV to bust up ambushes on the MSR's. The guys and gals in the AMC shop in Kuwait are true patriotic heros working very long hours to build things like this for our Soldiers. They also developed the first and very successful roll...
RE: M800 series doing Rail duty
I think the band was just put on there with a banding machine and you would cut it off and then use the bander to put a new one on when you are done with the work.
You are right I think about it being an M 52 series my bad and I changed the topic
I will track the TCN and see what happens to them I expect they will reach there sometime in Febrary. The are some of the nicest five tons I have seen and it is a shame that we can not keep the tractors here because I have a new unit here that would like to use them with some recently excessed...
Guess I will have to plan on 2009 since I don't get out of Korea till mid June 2008 at the earliest. I know you all will have a great time and I hope you take a post lots of pictures of this event.
These trucks are excess to Korea and we are shipping them to Red River Texas. If the USANG does not get them they sure would be a nice find they are all almost brand new and the great thing is none of them are plagued by CTIS.
Saw this truck the other day and I thought you all would like to see the mods done to it by the Maintenance Depot at Camp Carroll in Waegon, Korea
The one picture from a commercial truck I snapped because of the neat way they had used to keep the lugnuts tight.
I really like mine and have it on the duece it has a long ground lead on it too that is a sign of the 2nd generation of this switch. I just have had three levers fail and after using these in Iraq I decieded to splurge and get one for the duece to go with the LED front turn signals and LED...
RE: Re: Installing a tach on the M1009
Thanks for posting this and the pictures I am trying to find the best place to put the rotation sensor and could not make out where yours is. I have all the items and just need to get home and install it.
The Soldiers all called that Armor kit the frankenstien kit but they swore by it as the best protection short of the SIMLULA complete replacement cab on the HEMMT. We did all kinds of neet weld on mods to the trucks to make the Soldiers happy including some real fancy grill ornaments and other...
RE: Re: RE: out
Mine all have the LED on them and the light lights up when there is sun shining on it. I have had good results with it and the real test will be how the trucks start when I get home from Korea. I like the fact that they are in epoxy and have long leads on them allowing a...
I guess I fell in love with them as an Army transporter. It was out deuce that held the ring mount,
it was our duece that started every other truck in the cold New England winters,
it was our duece that we made into a gun truck,
it was our deuce that hauled our food and bullets,
it was our...
Clint at least the heads are not leaking... I like the idea of welding it myself. But then I like to weld. The canisters are a PIA but I am sticking with them until after I get the Overson hubs..$$$
RE: My Giant 715 got a workout!
Now that is a 4X4!
I have gragged a lot of trees with my duece and hauled them to the sawyer on the M969 the less I have to drag them the better. Are you gonna cut it for firewood or sell it to a mill?
This gets me thinking I should look into shipping a container of 1200 20 tires from Hankook here in Korea. I will look into the availablity but it may be an option because Korea still uses 5 tons and dueces. If this is a possibility I would want to know if anyone else is looking for these...
Perhaps a few towbars will allow you to keep it... I remember towing a long string of M915 with holmes, towing M915 with holmes towing M915 towing an M 872 all down the highway in Tennesee.
