Oh! So it's purely a seal between the axleshaft itself and the hub. I was thinking it would be more internal. I have gasket material I could attempt to create a gasket... anyway, this is really straightforward. Thanks for the help.
Thanks. Can you explain where the gasket goes? I'm sure I'll find it, but I'd like to understand ahead of time. I haven't found a good exploded view in the manuals yet. Is a gasket obtainable at the corner parts store?
Just spotted this:

Can someone tell me what I need to buy in terms of an oil seal before I tear into...
Okay, I got it. Yes, the tricks were: (1) first push the belt off the pulley toward the engine on the bottom/crank pulley. I didn't see from the top, but that pulley has a lot of space on the engine side, unlike the others. This makes removal a snap, (2) for tightening, the square bolt idea...
Just searched up this thread after spending 30 minutes trying to get the PS belt off. I could cut it off, but I'd still have to get the new one on. Crazy. Even if I could get the belt on, I'm not sure how to go about tensioning it. Is there a location to pry, or are you just supposed to be...
Not to hijack, but is there an original post on this relay mod someone can point me to? I'm not clear on what it is and what problem it is trying to solve. I've been searching but everything I've found refers to it as though everyone already knows what it is. Thanks.
Is the rubber hose to the mechanical lift pump a custom bent deal or is it okay to use standard fuel hose? It kind of looks custom to me, but I can't tell for sure. If it is custom, is there a source for replacement?
Yeah, I just figured this out last night. It was plugged. Of course, when I touched the tube it immediately cracked off flush with the case. Not sure what to do now. I could just leave it, but it seems like crud could get in there pretty easily.
I noticed just recently a lot of fluid coming out the filler tube. I'm really hoping the trans isn't shot because that'll be the end of this truck. Any ideas? My hope is that the breather is plugged somehow, but I'm not sure exactly where it is besides "on top". I'm going to go poke around...
I came to the site after being gone a long time and found several PMs and replied threads. I should be getting notified but I'm not. This site isn't blocked because there was no issue getting password updates and such. Is there some setting I need to adjust to make the alerts get sent?
Thanks for the help. I didn't see the replies because something is up with my E-mail notification... I replaced the cylinder plus the line up to the splitter. Everything was so rusty I had to pull the whole backing plate off and grind the bolts off to remove the old cylinder. I'm grateful I...
This is not really CUCV specific, more like basic maintenance, but... I sprung a leak at the driver's rear wheel cylinder at some point recently. I noticed it when the reservoir went empty. It appears to be leaking right at where the steel line goes into the wheel cylinder. Any thoughts on...
I had the front battery (the one I jumped) tested and it came out okay. So it's all kind of a mystery still. I'm going t put it back in and I bet it will work right except for the wait light. I guess next I'll try to find out if the glow plugs are actually getting voltage or not.
Here's the story: I have a 86 CUCV with a civilian glow plug conversion. I went out to start the truck - I turned the key, saw the "wait" light, waited a little while and turned the key to start. At that point, some sort of click or pop or something (not loud) and no start. At that point...
Can anyone tell me about emission testing for an M1008 in Arizona? Is it required at all? If so, do they understand that it wasn't originally made the same as a similar civilian version? I'm considering a move to Tucson and am wondering what I'll be up against.
Recently for the first few miles in the morning, my brakes are insanely grabby, likely nearly instantaneous lock in the rear. After a mile it starts getting better until it's back to normal. I haven't pulled the drum off yet to see if the pads have something on them, but I was wondering if...
