Yes, the bed is about 9 feet after cutting. If I still had the truck I'd get precise measurements, but sadly about a year ago this time my wife was faced with losing her job so this was one of the first things to go....
As for the troop seat posts, mine were metal. Wood will work, however...
Some of the original seals are still in place, but for the rest I have not done anything permanent, only temporary black foam insulation that's been rtv'd on.
After replacing the door seals on the CUCV this past weekend, I contemplated welded a small rail on the roof and cab then attaching...
Looking real good!
As for receipts, I didn't keep any, though I have a pretty good idea of what I spent on the whole project...
For flooring, I'm with Ducer on the 16 gauge sheet metal, as that's what I used because the old stuff measured closer to 16 gauge.
As for car shows, I've yet...
Looking good w3azel!
Mine took over a year to get where it is today (with some intentional and unintentional breaks), and there's still some work to be done on her. In the end it'll all be worth it!
Yeah, the idea was pretty much put on near permanent hiatus....but if I ever build a custom camper on my crew cab deuce (see avatar and build thread) it'll be something along what these pictures represent.
Yes, I got it in Florida. However, the previous owner never patched the holes in the roof where the police light bar was and all the seals were dry rotted, so lots of water got in. Also, he took it to the beach a lot, so lots of salt water intrusion as well. No different than salt rot up...
I did a full seat swap (both front and rear), using seats from a early 2000's Chevy pickup and third row seat from similar year Suburban.
You can see them in my M1009 build thread in my signature.
Wow, it's been over 6 months since I've updated this thing!
A lot has happened in that time. Had a major health scare that put me out for a time, then with the holidays and what not not much happened with the truck (hence the delays) until the last three weeks.
Anyways, got the troop seats...
What else have you done to it? I'm assuming it's turning over, yes? Are you sure the glow plugs are getting power? Is the glow plug relay clicking? Has anything been modified electrically to the system?
These are just a few of the things you should be asking yourself, as the problem is most...
Peter is the only guy I know. He's bought a bunch of M35a3's to part out for a custom 8 wheel steer project. I bought my cab, a set of tires/rims and some other parts from him for my crew cab project. Buying a driver's seat from him next.
Yeah mine are about the same, causing the truck to not even sit level. It's on the list, and I'll either do a two inch lift like Sharecropper mentioned or buy factory replacements from LMC.
Realized late yesterday that in all this I had neglected to weld the front troop seat frame supports back on the bed! aua
So a bit of sanding new and old paint off and a little trimming of metal I got them welded in place today. Not the prettiest of welds on the passenger side one, but...
